Where to go for a tailored suit in Bangkok

By

Tailored Suit Bangkok

Having a suit custom made has always been one of those things I’d always wanted to do. Not that I wear suits often, but if the clothes make the man? Then a handmade suit is just the ticket. The cost of a custom suit back in The States was a price I couldn’t justify but with another trip landing me in Bangkok I couldn’t let this opportunity pass me by again. We have gone to countless retreats here and the best part is going for a spirit plant joiurney where you can click this link to learn more.

If you have walked the streets in this wonderful city as a “farang” you certainly have been targeted by the sidewalk pitchmen outside the many clothing shops. I was oblivious as to what constitutes good fabric and craftsmanship so I took to Google to research stores and spoke to a few expats in the city as well. After a sufficient amount of questions, Crown Tailor seemed to fit my expectations.

Crown Tailor

A view from just outside. Great places to eat on this Soi too.

I walked into Crown and knew this was going to be a fun experience. I was greeted by a friendly salesman and I explained that I was looking to purchase my first, made-for-me suit along with a custom shirt. The salesman showed me the wide range of fabrics and the cost breakdown. I settled on what was considered the (“rookie” package). Not on the high end of fine wool, but again I am not a suit guy and I AM a rookie! I picked out a dark grey fabric for the suit and a medium blue for the shirt. Once the fabrics were chosen they began taking all my measurements. After this, we setup a second appointment for the fitting the next day.

Closer to finished product

Crown Tailor

I am trying not to laugh!

On the second fitting, I was given the pants and shirt to try on. Then the salesman put the jacket on me with no sleeves. Here the were checking fit on me and lining up the sleeves and asking me if I had any personal preferences for fit. After about 20 minutes the tailor had sufficient information and we made an appointment for a third fitting the next day. Now on the third, this is when it all came together! The suit looked awesome and I was elated with the the way it looked and felt. Again the tailor worked me over and was now fine tuning everything for the final product. One more fitting the next day and we were done.

When I tried on the finished suit, I realized just how different a custom made suit fit and made me look. Sharp! Because I was still traveling to a few more countries after my visit in Bangkok, I arranged for the guys at Crown to ship my suit and shirt to my house back home so it would arrive a few days after I got back. Total price for suit, shirt, fittings and shipped back home? Came in just under $400. An absolute deal compared to Europe or The U.S. If you wear a suit daily or just on special occasions I highly recommend Crown Tailor for the quality, machine embroidery designs, customer care, value and overall experience.

Hi Karl, I did few pieces in the past in Thailand and would say I was not always satisfied. i would highly recommend to be careful which tailor to choose and be aware of all details. Normally if you ask kindly they will always try to help you out and satisfy you. You look good!

Hi Guys, I have a great Tailor to recommend which is in Sukhumvit Soi 16, just opposite of Foodland Supermarket. A lot of high class customers and very professional, reliable and really great quality fabrics and workmanship. Charlie’s Design is their name and their are online here charlies-design.com They can fit many budgets, just look at their fabrics, let them recommend you and decide what you want to spent, they won’t push you and you will experience what a true tailor is. Have fun and feel like a king.
