For those of us who like to stay connected on the go, there’s nothing more frustrating than a dead battery on your iPhone or tablet. The world of wireless still needs power. For the traveler a dead battery can really lead to problems. Need to checkin? Have to check a train schedule? Need Google Maps? Or the worst case scenario… You just boarded a plane for a ten hour flight with a season of your favorite tv show on your iPad and there are no outlets onboard, argh! Time for an external battery. The Bar from Jackery
I have used various external batteries in the past while traveling. My latest backup battery is the Bar from Jackery. Coming in at about the size of a granola bar it’s easily tucked away in a bag or jacket pocket. The aluminum construction feels very durable and it looks pretty sleek.
It is 2.1 amps 6000 mAh, giving you plenty of power and a recharge time of several hours for the battery itself. If you are charging an iPhone you should be able to charge it at least twice. For a tablet, at least one full charge. This is based on limited use while your device is charging.
It boosts some small led indicator lights to let you know its status.
I have used the Bar in my travels on an iPhone 5s and a Nexus 7. It came in very handy when I was out on day trips, using maps and the camera on my iPhone. Since the Bar takes up minimal space, I keep it stowed in my day bag all the time.
I purchased this one for about $30 and it’s worth every penny and should be a welcome addition for today’s digital traveler.

I have one called Innergie and these things are just amazing. I love the assurance that I can get a quick charge on the go if I run out of juice!
