I normally use the pic of the week post for something more visually beautiful but this image is just stuck in my head. As I rounded a street corner in downtown Bangkok I came across this child looking up at me with a cup of change. At first I felt like I got punched in the stomach. How old is this child, three? I took a picture, put some money in the cup and walked off feeling a bit of swelling in my eyes.
I don’t know the story behind this child but I never have seen a near infant laying on the ground in the middle of a large city. Fortunately it was the only child alone I saw but not the only child I saw begging for change. It is not an accurate portrayal of the streets of Bangkok, nor is it a rare sight either.

It’s not a rare sight here either unfortunately.

Just saddening

I agree with Aimee: devastating and powerful. Scam or not, the child is suffering and likely not going to have a good life. Heartbreaking indeed…
